Interpretation: Are there causes you believe in? Are there people you’d walk into fire for? Are there things for which you’d put your body on the line? There comes a time when you need to tap into that internal moral compass and express it outwardly. Showing up for others in a space of authentic allyship is an important part of being in beloved community. This kind of action always involves risk. Welcome it. Tell people you love them. Show up when they need you most. Get on the phone and call your representative. Speak up at that PTA meeting. Or, if you feel called, lead the charge. Whatever you do - do it out loud.

Deeper Resonance: This piece was inspired by Nishtha Jain’s beautiful documentary, Gulabi Gang, about the incredible true story of thousands of women in the Uttar Pradesh region of Northern India who came together to fight domestic violence and femicide.
