“If you’ve come to help me, then you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”
—Lila Watson
Card: Liberation Is Collective
Landscape: Community/Collective
Title of Painting: Don’t Interrupt the Sorrow
Interpretation: Our creative gifts are joyfully and perfectly aligned with the Earth's desire for peace and healing. And while much can be accomplished on our own, the power and scope of true liberation can only be realized when collaborating in a collective. May we have the courage to step into the center of our knowing and set ourselves free from violent oppressive structures. Let us fully embody the reality of what it means to be a good ancestor: compassionate, forward-thinking, capable of repairing generational trauma, and committed to building beloved community in the now.
Deeper Resonance: This piece is titled after a line from a song by Joni Mitchell. The image speaks to the potency of grief as a generative and necessary part of healing. There is no need to police the feelings of others. Holding space for and honoring our complexities, dichotomies, and pain is the path to inner and outer liberation.
